Players are strongly encouraged to attend all of the try-out sessions as it gives the selection panel the best chance to assess player abilities, however attendance at all sessions is not mandatory. If you are unable to attend a session it is recommended that you inform the head coach.

How often will training be?

Training days are yet to be finalised however after the team is selected the Manager (head Coach) will let you know.

What will it cost?

Total costs up to and including the State Championships are estimated to be $450 per player. This consists of:

  • The cost for the team entrance fee to the State Championships
  • Purchase the Southern Hills uniform and apparel including Southern Hills game shirt, training shirt and cap.
  • Training equipment expenses
  • Final Cost will be known after selection.

PLAYERS TO PROVIDE their own White baseball pants, Black Belt and Black Socks.

Should the team progress to the National Championships additional funding of approximately $2500 per player will be required to cover entrance fee, travel Flights, accommodation and team bus rental.

Should the team win the National Championship, all players and Coaching staff receives an all expenses paid trip to the World Series where the team competes as Australia.

Actual fees vary from year to year and will be advised once finalised. Costs to players may be reduced in various ways including fundraising, grants and sponsorship.

Who are the Coaches?

All coaches for Charter All-star teams must be accredited by Baseball Australia. Manager (Head Coach) must have a minimum of Level C accreditation and Assistant Coaches must have a minimum of Level B accreditation.

The Charter committee will appoint a Manager (Head Coach) as the head coach for all All-star teams and Little League Development Shield Team. Managers (Head Coach) will nominate two assistant coaches and an executive officer (for Charter Committee approval) to complete the coaching panel.

What is the team’s chance of reaching the National Championships and World Series?

The chances of the team are difficult to gauge as the standard of players who nominate varies from year to year as does the strength of the other competing teams. There will likely be 8 or 9 teams compete at the State Championships and Little League WA will announce how many teams will qualify to compete at the Nationals.

Although the competition is tough any player who nominates must be prepared and available to compete with the team up to and including the World Series.

What is a Charter?

Junior baseball in WA is administered under Little League International rules. Under these rules teams are formed in Charters which are generally based on geographical areas all around the world. In WA, Charters are formed by groups of clubs that are near each other.  In our case Southern Hills Warriors Charter is made of the following clubs:

  • Byford
  • Gosnells
  • Harrisdale
  • Kelmscott
  • Roleystone

The clubs that make up a charter can change from time to time. Charters select an All-star team in each age group to compete in the State Championships. Teams that are successful at their State Championships progress to compete in the National Championships. The National Champion Charter All-star team earns the right to compete at the corresponding World Series in the USA.

How many players will be selected?

Tournament rules dictate that between 12 and 14 players are selected for the team.

What is the Selection Process?

Try-out sessions will be used to assess the skills and attitude of players. At the completion of the try-out sessions a selection panel will choose the team. The selection panel is made up of representatives from each club within the charter. The Selection Policy is available on this website in the main menu under "Policy's". Note: The policy may change from time to time.
