Did you know a significant part of Dolphin history is our treasured fig tree?
Better known to most at our club as the Tree of Knowledge, the beautiful Morten Bay Fig stands proudly next to the side of our clubhouse.
In the late ‘80s and ‘90s, this tree was the centrepiece of the Noosa Reef Hotel beer garden, the place we celebrated the end of season ‘Dolphin Day’ before the clubhouse stood where it is today.
In 1994 as part of the Reef Hotel renovations, the smallish fig was to be cut down.
When foundation member, the late Darryl Corrie got wind of this and given the history and connection to the Dolphins, he was not going to let that happen.
Darryl rallied a group of players and supporters to dig the tree out, load it onto a truck and replant it on Dolphin soil where it stands today.
The area now, completely covered by the tree's magnificent branches, continues to act as a ceremonial space where celebrations are held, team gatherings take place, and Dolphin memories live on.
